The term “cultural appropriation” is used to describe a situation where a dominant social or cultural group takes an expression, idea, or product from an oppressed cultural group and uses it for its own benefit. So, the use of Native-American tribal names in American sports (Redskins, Blackhawks, Braves, and so on) is an example of cultural appropriation.

A “pidgin” language is a language that develops when two or more different languages meet in one geographic region- often when colonizers and the colonized live together in close proximity. The resulting language has elements of both the original languages. When a “pidgin” evolves into the primary language of a region it is called a “Creole” language.

Although Mexico sends far more immigrants to the United States than Cuba does in any given year, the majority of Mexican immigrants arrive in the southwest of the United States. Acculturation affects food habits, sex norms and languages within a culture. Food habits may change based on availability of new ingredients. Different cultures have different practices for types and frequency of sex. Finally, languages change overtime to become a new, unique language.

Acculturation is mainly used to describe the process of change within large groups. The term transculturation was created to describe the change on a smaller scale with a less obvious impact.

Assimilation is the process by which a culture adapts to another culture's language and psychological characteristics. This term can refer to both individuals and groups.

The Latin language and culture was adopted and is the basis of most modern day languages. The language became dominant due to the power of the Roman people.

Assimilation can occur either spontaneously or forcibly. In the case of the Romans, they forcibly created assimilated weaker cultures and had the weaker culture adopt their language and other cultural practices.

The four factors for determining assimilation are: socioeconomic status, geographic distribution, second language adoption, and intermarriage. This determines the level that an immigrant assimilates within a culture.

Multiculturalism is the term that describes the promotion of multiple cultures within a society. In America, this idea became an important part of society in the 70's and 80's when African Americans and Latinos were working to get recognized.

The only belief system mentioned in this question that was founded by Confucius was Confucianism, which included philosophical and ethical beliefs and ways of thinking.
